When we were expecting our first kid, my husband who is a very planned person, did all his research on what will be required a week before labor, at the time of labor, after the baby was born, even first 3 months supply. He had all planned and thought we were ready at least a month before the labor.
I personally wanted my baby to come early but that did not work either :( had to wait till the 40th week. We can discuss "How to overcome the stress and fatigue during towards the end" some other day.
After my son was born, things changed completely. My husband was wrong we were not really prepared for it. What we thought as baby essentials was not really what we needed at that time.
We had few months of sleepless nights figuring it out. Wow.. that was a stressful experience but we learned our lesson. When we had our second son, we did not stress much. We added few essentials to our baby registry and reminder we went for a day baby shopping week before and we were all set.
So what we learned, we incorporated with our second son.
It is not that difficult to plan it. Things you will need before the labor:
Cloths -- It will depend purely on the weather but make sure you purchase few 3 months, 6 months specific to the weather too. Amazon is really the best option for baby cloths and you might have great variety and multiple suppliers.
Snap-up PJ's - This is really good one. You can get this one from Carters
Baby Mittens - Once of the essential item as this will protect your baby from scratching.
Socks - If your baby was born during the winter, then go for organic woolen socks else organic cotton is the best option.
Pacifier - This is god sent when your baby is very cranky and some researches suggest using pacifier might avoid SIDS.
Coming to the security point, you should be prepared with securing the baby room with the following
Crib - Make sure you build the crib month in advance and one important point, please order your crib atleast 3 months prior as most of the good once might take a month for delivery.
Baby Monitor - My Husband did all the research and we went with techie product Summer Infant Monitor
Crib Bedding & Sheets - Always use 100% cotton products
Feeding product's
Nursing Pillow - Boppy Nursing Pillow worked the best for us
Breast Pump - as for the breast pump, i have no 2nd choice go with Medela Breast Pump
Other important products
Changing Table
Diapers & Wipes - I discussed this in my earlier blog about registering for Diaper Subscription with Amazon
Baby Tub - I went with Fisher Price 4-1 bath tub. You can get it in Amazon - they are having some great sale now.
Medicines - Always have a first-Aid kit handy.
Stroller - We bought the high end joggers - Be very careful to see the reviews for the best cribs that fit your budget.
